About

Hi, I’m a father, husband, and doctor, and I spend most of my professional time building software for patients and those that care for them. I asked my daughter to make the drawing that appears on the header of this site. I explained that I want to show how people can work together and learn from each other, whether they are patients, doctors, or researchers. If we respect each other and strive to understand the ways each of us is an expert, we can make better science happen faster.

Here’s a short bio: Roni Zeiger, MD, is the former Chief Health Strategist at Google, where he led efforts ranging from Google Flu Trends to Symptom Search. In 2012, he co-founded Smart Patients, an online community where patients and caregivers learn from each other about treatments, the latest science, and how it all fits into the context of their experience. Roni serves as CEO of Smart Patients and continues to see patients in the urgent care clinic of Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.

Roni earned his MD at Stanford University and completed his internal medicine residency at the University of California, San Francisco. He has served as a clinical instructor of medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine and received a master’s degree in biomedical informatics from Stanford.

Roni also advises several companies, including Medic Mobile and Healthvana.
